Surrey County Council wants to develop new affordable housing on Council owned sites in Surrey, including Chalkmead in Merstham.

Surrey County Council is committed to increasing the availability of affordable housing for local residents by 2030. As part of its “Right Homes, Right Support” approach, the Council is bringing former care homes and other unused sites back into use to provide much-needed affordable homes for people living in Surrey.
These developments are designed not only to increase the supply of affordable housing but also to help ensure that residents can access the right support when they need it. As a result, some of the new homes will be allocated to people who have mental health care and support needs, helping them to live independently within their local communities.
The former Chalkmead Care Home site in Merstham has been identified as an opportunity to help meet these needs. The Council is proposing to transform this unused site into a development of around to 30 new one-bedroom apartments, providing high-quality, affordable homes and making a positive contribution to addressing local housing needs.
